#CELEBRATION OF LIFE

mom

I WOKE UP THIS MORNING WITH ASA’S “BEAUTIFUL” SONG SERENADING MY MIND & THAT’S KINDA STRANGE BECAUSE MEANINGFUL SONGS LIKE THAT ALWAYS HAVE A HEART-FELT MESSAGE & THAT SONG CAN ACTUALLY SUMMARIZE HOW I FEEL THIS MORNING… BEFORE I GO ALL SOULFUL ON YOU ALL THIS MORNING, YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING WHY AM TYPING IN CAPS…RIGHT? WELL, IT’S BECAUSE AM DEDICATING THIS POST TO THE MOST SPECIAL PERSON TO ME…. HER NAME? ADERONKE MABAYOMIJE TOYIN TANWA TANRI TI INU WA SI DUN OYEMADE…. MY MOTHER #CELEBRATIONOFLIFE.

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T UNDERSTAND THE NAME, JUST LEAVE A COMMENT & I WOULD GET BACK TO YOU ASAP….

HAVE YOU EVER FELT LIKE SOMEONE OR SOMETHING WAS TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU BUT YOU FEEL & KNOW THAT THAT SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS STILL WITH YOU? WELL, IF THAT’S A YES THEN WE ARE ON THE SAME WAVE-LENGTH.

ON THIS DAY IN 2006, A RARE JEWEL WAS TAKEN AWAY FROM “ME”. WHY DID I PUT THE WORD “ME” IN QUOTE? REASONS TOOOOO MUCH TO EXPLAIN. I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO GIVE A GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION OF WHAT HAPPENED ON THAT “WONDERFUL” MORNING BUT I WOULD NOT WANT MY READERS TO BURST OUT IN TEARS, THAT’S WHY I TITLED THIS POST #CELEBRATIONOFLIFE.

APART FROM HER BEING MY MOM, MOTHER & MAAMI, WHAT ELSE WAS SHE TOO ME

SHE WAS MY FRIEND… I LIVED WITH MY MOM ALTHOUGH SHE HAD OTHER LOVELY KIDS AND IF U DIDN’T KNOW, I WAS THE LAST BORN…LOL. SOME SAY I ACT LIKE IT & OTHERS SAY I DONT…. WELL YOU CANT BLAME ME NA… I AM SPECIAL, THAT’S WHY MY NAME IS KOREDE…VERY SPECIAL NAME. LET ME NOT BORE YOU WITH MY NAME & ITS MEANING AS THIS POST ISN’T ABOUT ME.

I & MY MOM LIVED TOGETHER… WE GISTED, WE QUARRELED, WE SETTLED, WE GISTED AGAIN, QUARRELED AGAIN AND SETTLED AGAIN. AND LIKE ANY TRUE FRIEND, SHE WOULD TELL YOU AS IT IS…. SHE NO DEY SEND PERSON.

WHAT ELSE WAS SHE TOO ME?

SHE WAS MY TEACHER…MY OLD SECONDARY SCHOOL MATES, HAD AN IDEA OF WHO MY MOM WAS…. ALTHOUGH, SHE WASN’T A TEACHER BUT MY TEACHERS KNEW HER… SHE WAS A CELEB & I WAS A BIT MISCHEVIOUS BACK THEN…LOL WHO WASNT? WELL, MY MOM TAUGHT ME STUFFZ THAT EVEN THE BEST OF TEACHERS CANT TEACH YOU…#RESPECT #CONFIDENCE #CHARISMA …E.T.C

WHAT ELSE WAS SHE TOO ME?

SHE WAS A DISCIPLINARIAN….. LOL. IF YOU MESS UP WHETHER IN PUBLIC OR IN PRIVATE, MY MOM WOULD DISCIPLINE YOU AND IF ANY EXTERNAL PARTY TRIED TO INTERFERE, HMMM. THAT’S ALL I CAN SAY. BY THE WAY, I THINK MOST WOMEN ESPECIALLY YORUBA WOMEN HAD A DISCIPLINARY GENE FLOWING IN THEIR VEINS…LOL. I REMEMBER VIVIDLY WHEN I WAS A TEEN, I HAD A VERY SILLY FRIEND BACK THEN…HIS NAME? DONT BOTHER, I WONT MENTION IT HERE.#PRIVACY. WELL I WENT TO HIS HOUSE TO PLAY AND I LOST TRACK OF TIME. WHEN I KNEW I HAD SPENT MORE TIME THAN EXPECTED, I STAYED LONGER BECAUSE IN KNEW WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES OF MY ACTIONS WOULD BE… BACK THEN, IF YOU STAY LONGER THAN 5.00PM IN A FRIEND’S HOUSE THEN YOU ARE IN FOR THE WORST DAY OF YOUR LIFE….LOL. WHILE I WALKED BACK TO MY HOUSE WITH MY FRIEND, I SAW MY MOM TALKING WITH SOME OF HER FRIENDS. IMMEDIATELY I SAW HER, I KNEW…I KNEW THAT THAT DAY WAS GOING TO BE A “GOOD” DAY….YOU CAN IMAGINE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME AFTER THAT….LOL. WELL, LET ME JUST SAY I HAD A “WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE”

WHAT ELSE WAS SHE?

SHE WAS FASHIONABLE…. YORUBA WOMEN GENERALLY LOVE TO LOOK GOOD & BEAUTIFUL AND MY MOM WAS IN THE FRONT SEAT OF THAT TRAIN…LOL. SHE HAD HER OWN FASHION STATEMENT THAT TURNED HEADS AND SHE NEVER DISAPPOINTED. WHAT KIND OF DRESS WHERE YOU LOOKING FOR THAT SHE DIDNT HAVE….FROM BOUBOU TO LACE….ORIGINAL LACE OO.. TO DAMASK….ORIGINAL DAMASK. SHE WORE A DAMAMSK WHEN SHE GOT MARRIED OVER 30YEARS AGO BUT SHE GAVE OUT THE DAMASK TO HER COUSIN A YEAR BEFORE SHE PASSED ON….(CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION)… LOL SHE DIDN’T JUST GO FOR ANY MATEIRAL OR DRESS, SHE WENT FOR THE BEST… HOW DID I KNOW? I WAS NOT HAPPY BECAUSE I DISLIKED ALL THOSE ANKARA & LACE DRAMA….LOL. WELL, YOU CANT BLAME ME, AM A GUY.

WHAT ELSE WAS SHE?

SHE WAS A “SACRIFICER”, A GIVER …. SHE SACRIFICED A LOT FOR ME TO MAKE SURE I HAD WHAT I NEEDED. SHE GATHERED MONEY TO PAY FOR MY FEES ALL ALONE WITHOUT ANY SUPPORT FROM NO ONE. I WENT TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS FROM KINDERGATEN TO UNIVERSITY….OOPS. I ALSO WENT TO A MILITARY PRIMARY SCHOOL…LOL DONT KNOW WHETHER TO CALL THAT A PUBLIC SCHOOL OR….  SHE DID WHAT ONLY A MOTHER COULD DO AND I THANK GOD FOR HER LIFE… #CELEBRATIONOFLIFE

WHAT ELSE WAS SHE?

SHE WAS A GOOD COOK….LOL. THERE WAS THIS SAYING BACK THEN THAT; ‘NO FOOD TASTE BETTER THAN YOUR MOTHER’S FOOD’.  I LOVE MY MOTHER’S FOOD AND SSHE TAUGHT ME HOW TO EAT & APPRECIATE GOOD FOOD….NOT INDOMIE.. I COME FROM A LINEAGE OF GREAT MEN & WOMEN WHO LOVE MEAT… THEY CAN EAT MEAT OOO. ALL THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COW OR GOAT… PANLA, SHAKI, EDO, AND SO ON… BUT NOT POMO….THAT ONE NA LEATHER JARE…LOL

I LOVE MY MOTHER….

ONE OF THE MANY THINGS THAT I HAVE COME TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT GOD CAN NEVER COME DOWN TO GIVE YOU WHAT YOU NEED…. HE DOES IT THROUGH MEN & WOMEN. ONE OF SUCH WOMEN IS MY MOTHER AND THE OTHER MOTHERS & FATHERS WHO HAVE HELPED ME TO BECOME WHO I AM TODAY.

FRIENDS…HONOUR YOUR PARENTS, SPARK OFF THAT INNER BLESSING. THE BIBLE SAYS; HONOUR THY FATHER & THY MOTHER AND YOUR DAYS WOULD BE LONG….

REST WELL…  ADERONKE MABAYOMIJE TOYIN TANWA TANRI TI INU WA SI DUN OYEMADE.

GOD BLESS.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

Wow! What a wonderful woman! She looks as beautiful as the great things you have written about her. Its obvious she lives on in you, she has left a legacy behind, just didn’t come and go! That’s what makes her great!!! The ball is in your court, to pass on the most important things that made you established, and pass the baton to the next generation! I join your family to celebrate a great life indeed!
